Bespoke newel caps for a 18th century house in Kent

In early 2015 I was approached by a couple living in a beautiful 18th century house in Kent, who wanted hand carved newels caps for their old staircase. It’s believed that the staircase did originally have newel caps, but that they had been lost over time.

It was an exciting commission to work on as each newel cap was designed specifically for the couple and their two children. One with a celtic theme, the other in memory of a family cat and the last inspired by Slovakian ornament. I used seasoned Oak in keeping with the natural wood of the staircase and distressed and stained the carvings to match the staircase.
